Meet Binoo: The Silkie Rooster Bringing Joy Around the World

There’s no easy way to sum up the joy that is Binoo the Silkie Rooster. His viral Instagram Reel (viewed over 8.5 MILLION TIMES and counting), has brought smiles to people around the world. One look at his fluffy charm and playful spirit, and you’ll understand why the internet can’t get enough of him.  With his fluffy feathers, sweet little shuffle dance, and an undeniable love for his mom, this Silkie rooster is unlike any other. What started as a simple backyard flock has blossomed into a worldwide story of joy, resilience, and connection.

Binoo’s mom, Anick Gervais, never expected to have an internet-famous rooster living in her backyard. But after sharing a video of him running toward her, full of excitement and doing his signature dance (trust us, you have to see it to believe it), millions of people fell in love with him. Comments poured in from strangers who said he made them smile on tough days, and before long, this duo had an audience across Instagram, Facebook, and beyond.

But behind the viral videos is a real story of a woman who found comfort in chickens during a challenging season of life, and a rooster who reminded her that animals carry just as much personality and love as any pet.

Anick’s Chicken Journey

For Anick, chickens were more than just a hobby, they were a new chapter.

“I’ve always wanted to be self-sufficient,” she shared. “It was during COVID, and I was going through a separation. My partner at the time never wanted chickens, and I thought this was a great gift to myself. I wanted something positive to focus on, so I bought a coop and some chickens.”

Like so many new chicken keepers, she didn’t come from a farming background and had to learn everything along the way. She began with six red sex-links in her suburban backyard, tackling challenges as they came. From raccoon break-ins, to learning how to meet sick hens, she endured the many surprises that come with raising your first flock. “I knew nothing. I’m not a farm girl at all. But I just ran with the punches, and chickens brought me so much joy,” she said.

Two years ago, Binoo came into the picture thanks to a Facebook post. Someone in her community needed to quickly rehome their chickens before moving. Anick took them in, and one of them, at the time named “Chickalita”, and assumed to be a hen, turned out to be a rooster. A very special rooster.

Here Comes Binoo

Like most chicken keepers, Anick was used to seeing her flock come running for treats, but this rooster was different.

“Every time I’d say his name, ‘Binoo,’ he would just come running to me,” she laughed. “It was hilarious. We had this instant connection. And then he started doing this little dance move, this shuffle, whenever he was excited. I’d never seen anything like it.”

That quirky behavior soon turned into something unforgettable. During a picnic with friends, someone wondered if he would come when called. Anick gave it a try, recorded the moment, and the post changed everything. “That video just went viral. People thought it was so cute that a rooster would come running and dance like that. I think it touched people because it was pure joy.”

For Anick, it confirmed what she already knew: This was not just another rooster in the flock. He was a one-of-a-kind companion who deserved to be shared with the world.

Posting his videos was never part of a big plan, it was simply part of daily life. “I’m someone who shares a lot online anyway. Binoo was just so hilarious, I had to post it,” Anick explained. “And then it went viral, and suddenly I was getting messages from people saying, ‘Every time I see Binoo, he makes me smile.’ That’s when I realized this little rooster is making a difference.”

As a single mom, the impact has been both emotional and practical. “Life gets expensive. I thought, how can I spread Binoo’s message while also helping provide for my family? That’s when I started making stickers and merch. People love him so much, they wanted to carry a piece of him with them.”

Today, the income from her Etsy shop helps cover feed, upgrades to his coop, and care for the flock, all while sharing the message of joy and kindness far beyond the backyard.

The Binoo Shack

As Binoo’s story grew, it became clear that this little rooster needed a space of his own. With several other roosters in the flock, giving him his own coop wasn’t just about comfort, it was about safety too. Roosters can sometimes be rough with one another, and Anick wanted to make sure he could enjoy life without worry.

After meeting Anick and watching the videos of her beloved Binoo, we too fell in love and wanted to celebrate this happy little rooster. Here at the Chicken Coop Company, we love seeing chickens bring joy to people’s lives, and supporting their journey felt like a natural fit. Getting a coop up to Canada may have had a few road bumps, but eventually, Binoo was able to move into his very own Rhode Island Coop and Walk-In Run with the dedication of his mom Anick, and some creative problem solving from our team. Life Lessons from One Very Special Rooster

If there’s one thing Anick is quick to point out, it’s that you don’t need to know everything before you start your chicken journey. She’s learned along the way, and this fluffy, dancing rooster has been one of her greatest teachers.

“What I know is that you don’t have to know everything before you start,” she said. “Just go with the flow and figure it out. Chickens are amazing. Binoo is a Silkie, that’s about all I know about his breed. But what I’ve realized is that they give so much back.”

She also wants people to rethink the reputation of roosters. While some can be aggressive, she’s found that with time and kindness, they can be incredibly protective and loving. “Some roosters are sweet. If you spend time with your flock, pick them up, talk to them nicely, they can be really protective and loving. Binoo’s shown me that every animal has its own personality, and they’re all special in their own way.”

For us, that’s one of the reasons we love hearing stories like Anick’s. Backyard flocks aren’t just about eggs or coops. They’re about connection, discovery, and the unexpected joy that chickens bring into everyday life.

Follow Along and Support the Journey

What began as one woman’s search for healing has grown into something much bigger.

“I think Binoo reminds us to own our weirdness, to be kind, and to love who we are without worrying about what people think,” Anick shared. “If we all did that, we’d make the world a better place.”

We’re proud to walk alongside him on this journey, because stories like this show that chickens can do more than provide eggs. They bring laughter, connection, and hope into people’s lives. And perhaps that’s the real magic here, proof that even the smallest, fluffiest creatures can leave a lasting mark on the world.
