Jumbo Pharaoh Coturnix Quail Hatching Eggs
Jumbo Pharaoh Coturnix Quail—also known as Jumbo Browns, Jumbo Wilds, or SLBs (Sex-Linked Browns)—are the gold standard for meat and egg production. These robust birds are selectively bred for size, egg output, and calm temperament. Reaching over 13 oz in weight, they mature quickly and begin laying or reach butchering weight by 8 weeks.
Feather sexable by 18 days, they’re easy to manage, fast-growing, and ideal for backyard quail keepers, breeders, and small-scale meat producers.
Appearance
Feather Color:
Classic “wild-type” brown quail feathering with light and dark brown mottling. Males have rust-colored chests with a white chinstrap; females have light, speckled chests.
Body Type:
Broad, thick-bodied birds are selectively bred for meat yield and egg production. Considered the ideal dual-purpose Coturnix variety.
Head and Beak:
Typical Coturnix head structure with dark, clean beak and alert expression.
Legs and Feet:
Sturdy orange legs. Slightly longer-legged than other Coturnix due to larger size.
Temperament
Calm and Non-Flighty:
Jumbo Pharaohs are quiet and relaxed, making them a great option for suburban or stealth setups—even in HOA-restricted areas.
Social and Adaptable:
Do well in cages or aviary setups. Prefer stable environments and minimal stress.
Egg Production
Excellent Layers:
Daily layers under optimal conditions, producing 250–300 eggs/year.
Egg Appearance:
Brown-speckled quail eggs, perfect for eating, pickling, or selling.
Feather Sexable:
By around 18 days of age, you can determine sex by chest feather pattern—speckled chest = female, rust chest = male.
Dual-Purpose Value:
Lay eggs early and grow fast enough for meat use by 6–8 weeks.
