Chicken coop accessories are essential for raising a healthy and happy flock. Some accessories are universal like protection from predators and others may be more specific to your flock such as what chicken toys or dust baths they prefer. If you're new to chicken raising or just looking to up your game here are some accessories to consider.

Chicken Waterer

Everyone needs to stay hydrated, chickens included. The Chicken Coop Company chicken waterer is designed to fit perfectly inside your coop. The waterer holds 1.25 or 2 gallons depending on the size you order so you're not constantly refilling a small waterer on the ground.

Speaking of ground because the water is contained in the piping system it eliminates all the issues with chickens spilling, making a huge muddy mess in your run and contaminating the water. Freeze proof nipples ensure your hens are able to drink year round and the waterer is equipped with a power cord port so if you need a water heater (sold separately) you can buy one and stick it in to keep water flowing during the colder months.

Predator Protection Kit

Keeping chickens safe is a top priority and there are many predators out there such as foxes, coyotees, raccoons, rats, and snakes. A predator protection kit is a helping hand to ensure the perimeter of your chicken coop and run is secure. The kit includes one inch hardware cloth which is a galvanized steel wire mesh that is set on the ground or slightly buried. U stakes and connectors are used to secure it to the ground and the coop keeping predators from digging under your coop or run and getting your chickens. There is a specific predator protection kit for each coop model we sell and it also includes protection for the coop run extensions.

Chicken Coop Heater

The Big Chicken Co. Coop Heater and brooder heater is a perfect solution to keep your chickens warm and safe during the cold months of the year. This heater has been designed with both safety and efficiency in mind, so you can be sure that your chicks will stay comfortable all season long. These are far safer than the traditional heat lamp alternative and typical space heaters. Plus, they're designed and manufactured in the USA!

It may be tempting to go the heat lamp route but heat lamp-caused fires are all too real. If there's one item that you want to get your flock for the winter we highly recommend a safe heater like this one. It is easy to install and provides reliable temperature control, as well as adjustable settings for a variety of scenarios. You can even install one of these heaters from underneath to keep your nesting boxes warm and avoid the dreaded "frozen eggs".

Automatic Door Opener

Good news! You don't need to open the door to let the chickens out in the early morning. There are automatic doors that will do this for you. This will save you a lot of time on busy mornings.  You can set the door to open at a specific time every morning or you can use the "dusk to dawn" feature. This feature opens and closes the door when the sun rises and sets.  An automatic chicken coop door can liberate you from the mundane tasks of opening and closing the coop every day.

It'll give you peace of mind at night knowing your chickens are protected from potential predators.  The automatic doors closing the chickens in at night once their roosting is a fabulous safety feature you will definitely appreciate.  Let's not forget, a happy chicken is a great laying chicken.  If your chickens are afraid or feel unsecure, it will be obvious in their egg production going down. The Automatic Chicken Coop Door Opener is constructed of laser cut aluminum with wood runners and is built to last. The LCD display and large buttons make it easy to use and simple to setup so you can enjoy chicken raising just a little bit more.

Nesting Pads

When i think about required chicken coop supplies nesting pads are at the top of my list. I hate cleanup so anything to make that easier is a win. Nesting pads do a lot of things you might not think about but the biggest benefit is they help to provide cleaner, fresher, better quality and more hatchable eggs. They are economical, easy to place in the laying nests and help in faster egg gathering. The eggs are on top, clean and fresh rather than having to hunt and dig for eggs as with some other products. They also draw moisture from droppings which drop to the paper below, out of the area in which the eggs are laid. We love Big Chicken Co's nesting pads as they are made in America with natural aspen excelsior fibers and are non-GMO.

Poop Trays

Are you tired of dealing with the messy and smelly task of managing chicken waste? Look no further than chicken poop trays! PS this is why we use them in all of the chicken coop company poop models. These handy tools are a game-changer when it comes to handling the waste produced by your feathered friends. First and foremost, chicken poop trays are incredibly convenient. Gone are the days of painstakingly cleaning out the entire coop to remove the waste. With these trays, all you need to do is place them strategically under your chickens' roosting areas, and voila! The trays will catch the droppings, keeping them contained in one easy-to-manage location. This not only saves you time but also reduces the chances of smearing unpleasant surprises on yourself while tending to your flock.

Not only do chicken poop trays simplify the cleaning process, but they also contribute to better hygiene and overall health for your chickens. By collecting the waste, you minimize the risk of bacteria and parasites spreading within the coop. This leads to a cleaner environment for your feathered friends, reducing the likelihood of illnesses and infections. In addition, chicken poop trays make it easier to monitor the waste output of each bird, helping you keep track of their health and identifying any potential issues early on. Over time everything wears out eventually so to extend the life of your coop we sell a replacement poop tray for each model of our coop. Links below for your convenience:

Frequently Asked Chicken Coop Accessories Questions

Q. How often should I replace a nesting pad?
A. Most chicken owners recommend changing the nesting pad in the nesting boxes once every 2-3 weeks, sometimes 4-5 weeks if the chickens never sleep in the boxes and they stay very clean. However, depending on the number of hens you have, you may need to change the pads more often. Simply replace the pads with fresh ones when they get soiled, wet, or dirty.
